Pictures ripped from video taken by buddy Peter Orlowski (my camera battery was empty). Whip over 1m long from peduncle end. 8m depth on night dive. This individual is quite a way south (+500kms) of usual range.

Low intertidal, under rock. Was quite small and I was quite pleased to find this one. Was hiding in a hole on the underside of a rock but I used a sort of vaccuum technique to get it out and it stayed still for some pics before going back into it's little hole.

Found inside both dead and live surf clams (Mactra Discors/Mactra Murchisoni) stranded on Kapiti Coast beaches after storms.

They appear stationary and usually solitary, with no more than three observed in individual clams each time. Can be found in any part of the soft tissue within the clam, from edges of the mantle to the gut, and are sometimes curled into small balls of no more than 2mm in diametre.

Not sure if this is potentially alarming for biosecurity concerns. Infected clams always appear to be sickly with noticeably-smaller tissue mass compared to healthy ones.

On a tag that had fallen off a great white shark. It washed in right in front of the settlement and is being returned to the scientist doing the study. Calm seas and light variable winds, mainly from the east
